Junior Camp:

Valley Mill Camp offers a coed program for four and five year old, preschool children. The “Bees,” as this group is called, have their own headquarters in the woods and a schedule that allows for creative outdoor play. The children also participate in many of the regular camp activities, but at a more relaxed pace.

Counselor In Training:

The CIT Program is provided for 14 and 15 year olds who enroll for the season or first session and are selected by the staff. The CIT’s begin by raising their own skill levels
in each activity, while attending weekly seminars to discuss teaching methods. They plan their own schedules, organize special activities, and practice teaching under the guidance of a senior instructor.

Horseback Riding:
is available to all girls. Instruction includes riding lessons, proper care
and understanding of horses, and correct handling of “tack,” saddle, bridle, harness, etc. An additional charge is made for those who choose riding.

Girls may choose Rock Climbing instead of horseback riding (no extra fee). Safety measures are of utmost importance when campers are climbing our 27’ training wall. Instruction in the use and care of all rock climbing equipment is received by each
camper before she gets off the ground. Rock climbing will include a low ropes, confidence course. The object in the low ropes program is to accomplish goals by working cooperatively. Occasional trips to Carderock will be available to the more advanced
climbers who qualify.

All ages may participate in the Canoeing and Kayaking program on our 2 acre lake.
Beginners start in open canoes or in kayaks gaining confidence in boats and learning control under careful supervision. Advanced boaters may learn Eskimo rolls, river-running skills and slalom-racing. River trips leave camp daily for the nearby Potomac and are
Individual attention and swimming instruction are given at every level of swimming ability. Classes are based on The Red Cross Learn to Swim program. The annual Water Ballet is an exciting event held the synchronized swimming skills during their regular
classes.

There is a flourishing Drama Program at the camp where girls learn the fundamentals of
stagecraft by participating in plays and skits. The program is a great aid in developing self-confidence and learning the art of self-expression.

The woods and streams are a storehouse of knowledge when girls are led to observe their natural surroundings. The campers learn to identify trees and plants, build campfires and cook outdoors, and to find their way by compass and map. Overnights and late-stays are planned for those whose camping skills qualify them.

The Arts & Crafts department provides many satisfying projects to foster creativity.
We bring girls together in our Gymnastics program with balance beams, vaulting
boxes, uneven parallel bars, and trampolines to build new strength, agility and poise.
Tumbling and aerobic exercises are also popular gym activities.
